These pages are lists of items & photos found from 1999 to the current time all dealing with the new Ford Thunderbird. Not for sale. The following is an alphabetical listing by Manufacturer or Distributor of the 2002 t 2005 Ford T-bird models released from 2000 to present. Some are Diecast and some are from other materials.

Differences between Concept and the 2002 models:
1- 2002 models generally have turn signals & side lights & 3rd brake light, concepts did not. Concepts were released in 3 colors - light yellow, black and red.
2 - Concept models were released from 1999 to 2000 - some of those castings are still used today with production and fantasy colors

Question for Ford and Mattel - Where is the 1/64 scale model 2002-05 Thunderbird? WE WANT ONE!! Maisto just released their 1/64 version just before Christmas 2009.
Where is Mattel's version?
Another want: quote from another diecast collector:
"I really wish Danbury or Franklin Mint would make a Retrobird diecast so that we would have one highly detailed 1:24th version."

Editor's Comment:
Update 2009: Maisto has plans to introduce a 3" toy version of the concept - for children this year. It will be the first designed for children, not the collector market - though you can bet we'll collect it, too. Note that this is the 10th anniversary of the introduction of the Concept Thunderbird to the world.
Update June 2008: MiniChamps has been toying with us for two years in their 1/43 scale - first a "blank" showing on their catalog pages, then last fall, 2007, finally showing a yellow 1/43, then in January or February, a silver appeared in place of the yellow. Latest - as of June 08, the silver is scheduled to be canceled before ever hitting the market. The black with white seats is still available thru their vendors.
Malibu International has marketed 7 colors of their 1/87th scale model as of Dec. '06. One color glaringly missing from their lineup is the 02/03 Whisper White color. With over 6500 owners with that color on their car, it would seem to me to be a color that would be wanted by owners & collectors. The few 1/18th scale models by Maisto that are in white are highly saught after by collectors and bring premium prices, more so than the scarce Neiman Marcus model in 1/18.
Old quest from 2005: Beanstalk has discontinued their 1/18 scale models of the Thunderbird. Minichamps appears to have the mold for this model. We certainly would love to see the model in ice blue metallic, steel blue metallic, cashmere, and platinum silver; bronze; monterey mist, and the rare inca gold

Had some fun and played with the graphics program - Wouldn't you like to see Ertl's Tiffany in all the colors? - Only the red hit the retail market, though all the 2002 colors were spotted at a Ford show display in 2001. 2002 Colors: 2002 Inspiration Yellow

Hongwell for MTH		2002 Ford Thunderbird	China	2008	1/43	Bright Yellow, (not like the yellow on the Cararama tbird); part of Rail Car set from Rail King by MTH #30-76268. Set of 4 T-birds on Auto Transport Rail Car; trademark "h" in script is next to the word 1/43 FORD THUNDERBIRD on the chassis. The hardtop is indeed, a different shade of yellow than the body, like it was yellow painted over black. It appears to have the correct "standard" black interior with the trim on doors and dash painted silver but premium style wheels are painted silver instead of chrome. License plate says "Thunderbird". Chrome around windows is painted silver.

** - These James Bond 007 models with the coral top are designated as "2002" since that's the actual model year that Ford used in the movie. The 007 Special Editions with the white tops represent the 2003 Special Edition available from Ford.
