Quickdraw,

Thanks for the info.

You're welcome Ed.

Hi Sally, I'm new to this too...

Trivia: Today is August 7th, Ford sold 118 Thunderbirds on August 7th for 2002, 2003, 2004 & 2005 combined.

8/8/2006; Today's Trivia:
Galpin Ford in North Hills, California, sold more Thunderbirds than any other dealer. In fact they sold 36 percent more than the next closest dealer.

would it be a crime to paint a hardtop premium white from thunderbird blue. I love to keep things original, but really like the look of the white top.

Ron no, it wouldn't be a crime at all, what YOU like is what matters most. I don't think being "original" is going to bring a premium price for the car during most of our lifetimes (if that was the reason you wanted to keep things original). Have you watched ebay to buy a white top? A good paint job is going to run $400 to $800 and for a little more you could buy a second top. The white top is popular and you wouldn't have any trouble selling it down the road and getting your money back – maybe even a profit. If you do get yours painted you would want to paint it Performance White instead of Whisper White. In case you didn't know, Whisper white was the body color and Performance white was the brighter accent color Ford used for white tops installed on all but whisper white bodys.

Today's Trivia: For the four years of Thunderbird production there were 35 different body/hardtop color combinations offered. These ten most popular body/hardtop combinations account for 48,519 of the total 68,098 2002-2005 Thunderbirds built.

Thanks for your help with the top! I'm actually picking my car up tomorrow, a generous birthday gift from my wife. Glad your here to share your knowledge.

Hey, does anybody have any idea as to if Ford plans on any future Tbird or variant? I had seen a Lincoln "glasshardtop" "Tbird" at the Detroit Auto show a few years ago, or is the brand completely "no more?" Just curious what folks more in the know about these things "know." Thx.

A Tbird blog is great idea, thx.

Greg, there are no immediate plans to re-introduce the Thunderbird. However it is one of Ford's most valued brand names. When the company returns to health you can be sure the Thunderbird will make another appearence in some form. It takes about three years to bring a car to market (concept-to-customer) so it would be at least that long after the program is approved.

I'm interested it buying a 55 t-bird and I need to know if a soft top can be installed on any 55. The one Im interested in has the hard top and I would like to install soft top if possible, Thanks- trb

Tip, Yes, softtop may be installed. It uses the same deck mounting plates that your hardtop uses for the deck -- IF your mounting plates each have 2 holes. If not, then you need to get the 2 hole deck plates. Watch the year softtop that you purchase as each has different mounting pins for rear on deck - those can be changed. You will also need to make sure you get the swingarm assembley which would be installed behind the seat. Use my contact form if you have further questions . You'll find the contact link in the "links to helpful sites" at the top of page

Hi Dot, Harry, everyone.
Speaking of soft tops. I have the Sand and it seems like I'm always fighting the Dark streaks. I have used the Raggtop cleaner and the protector two complete sets just to get the dirt that was on it when I bought it. (used and abused) The raggtop cleaner gets most of it but there is always some left. Does anyone have any magic tricks they know that work better. That stuff is expensive as well.

I OWN A 2005 TORCH RED, RED HARD TOP,LIGH SAND APPEARANCE PKG, SELECT SHIFT TRANS,PARKING LIGHTS, 7 SPOKE CHROME WHEELS.
VIN. # 1FAHP60A75Y100377
CAN YOU TELL ME HOW MANY WERE SOLD WITH THIS COMBO.
THANK YOU....TED (NEW JERSEY)

Ted,
There were only 109 made like yours.

O.K., so am I crazy? I have a 2002 "thunderbird blue" with the black accent package. I've had this car for about 2 months and the other day when I'm driving in the sun I notice that the dash is brown, very dark brown, but brown. This can't be just me, but it has not been mentioned by anyone else, there's not a back seat so I don't think I bought a Lincoln. Any comments?
Ron

Hello,
There is some Titanium High Performance Break Pads on Ebay- Has anyone ever used them?

Regards
CK

To Bo- I have the light Ash color and it gets dirty easy- I use Tide and a soft scrub brush- Works great-

To Ron- Did you have sun glasses on? Sometimes that distorts color- Or maybe the sun will fade the black??

No sunglasses and the car has always been garaged, must be crazy.
Ron

Ron, not sure why you're seeing brown in your 02 - it should be grey (not black) and match the vinyl in the rest of the car but since you are seeing brown and you've only had the car a couple of months, the dash could have been changed for some reason. The only brown vinyl dash that I know of would be from the Cashmere 05s. It also could have been the particular lighting conditions you were in because of the tint on your windows. You might want to find another owner of an 02 and compare.

To: CK Carver, Ive put the hardtop back on, but I'm thinking of taking it off again. Weather has been real nice it my curse I get a convertible and it rains all the time. I put in a pool a long time ago and it rained 17 weekends in a row. I think I will sneak it off and then I'll try the tide method.
Bo

Ron: if you are really seeing brown, ask someone else to check it. If they see black you should have your eyes looked at. I'm not trying to be flip here just worried. I had a small stroke and it affected my eyes for a while colors not right blurry vision. My glasses stopped working. they still don't but the other stuff pasted.

Hi Bo-
I dont know where you live but it sure isnt north Texas! Wish we had some of that rain-

You dont have to use very much Tide when you mix it with the water-

Regards
CK

I have just bought my first Thunderbird, a 2002 all black with hardtop. I am having a ball with this car. I don't really care for the tonneau cover that came on the 2002, it take the entire trunk to store it. Do you know of anyone who has bought the soft boot from the aftermarket co. How does it fit, the picture looks as if it goes into the trunk?
I also would be interested in the window sticker. I just found your site, and see the time expired fo the stickers last month

Thanks JIM C.

Hello Dot,

I got my window sticker today- Thank you for this Great Blog you have set up-
and All the help you have given me-

Regards
CK

HI Carver,
I'm going to pop the top this weekend for a couple weeks, I need to redo the taping anyway as its not quite right. it Sticks out a bit in the back. I'll try the tide. About a cap to a regular bucket of water of the liquid tide.If I'm reading you right.
Bo

HI Ron,
How are your eyes, are you still seeing dark brown in the dash.
Bo

Hi Dot, Harry.
Just wondering if window stickers have started to move out. No hurry the car is going no where for life but with me. The Site is Looking good. I had a question on bezel but i know you answered it here I just need to find it again.

Bo

Hi Bo,
The stickers went out on Wednesday so should be showing up anytime. I've had reports from 4 so far about receiving theirs.
The bezel answer is http://www.portholeauthority.com/thenewtbird/2002/02bezel.html
hope that helps you find it?

Bo, thanks for your concern, I've asked friends to look at the dash, some see brown some see charcoal. Through the magic of peer pressure I now see charcoal. I sure like this car!
Ron

Hi Ron,
Your a funny guy! You gotta watch those peers-
I use powder (do we still call it that?) Tide but I'd think the liquid would work the same- I'm the second owner of my PCR and the first owner didnt appreciate the car as it deserved- I've almost got her wiped off of it though-
I've ordered touch up paint-
Last week the new Thunderbird emblem ($28.10)came in and Troy Akman Ford took the old one off and put on the new for nada-
There is a couple of little dings that the paintless ding boys can get out-
Get its little scruffed up nose fixed and it will be perfect again- (Some people should only own utility vehicles)

Regards
CK

Jim C,
We'll let you know about the next round of window stickers. I have bought the aftermarket boot and it does tuck into the trunk but I think you'd prefer the 2003 to 2005 OEM boot as it folds and stores much better than the 02 boot.

Dot
Thanks for the reply. I'm new at this t-bird accessory purchasing. Where is the best place to look for a 2003-05 OEM boot? Would the dealer have one or is there another place to buy one.

THANKS JIM C.

Dot

Hi Jim,
It can occasionally be found on ebay but is probably easier to order thru your local Ford dealer. Price will be more if you buy thru the dealer - but even that price is negotiable if you're on good terms with the parts manager of the Ford dealer.

Hi Dot, Harry:
The Window sticker came today, I feel like I just got a new car. This sticker is going to get framed with the 2004 sales brochure I got off ebay.
I can't thank you enough.
I still have a question I found the hood scoop page where you left it Ha ha. there are 2 part numbers, and one is better priced I see . is there any difference between the 2 of them at all.
Bo

Hi CK: Well true to form it was supposed to be nice this weekend and it rained most of the time. So I give up If I can sneak up on it one sunny day when I have help to get the top off and try the tide on it I will, other wise it can wait until next spring.
When I do I'll be sure and let you know how it turns out. thanks,
Bo

Bo - no difference - just the price!

Any comments on preparing the bird for home garage storage over the next six months would be appreciated, my F150 will take the beating of the next few months. Can't wait for spring. Thanks all!

Ron, That's something I've never had to deal with so will send you off to the forums to search there. http://www.Thunderbirdnest.com is probably the best resource for past experience. You'll need to sign in to search there.

Hi Dot,
How are you. Hope everything is good with you.

I had a question I thought you might know the answer to. You know the tbird emblems some are for the hood and trunk some are smaller about 4 inches or so. Do you know of any source for these. anything you might know would help. There is always the bigger ones on ebay its the smaller ones I can't find.
Bo

Bo, the only source for the smaller metal emblems was thru TBN. They are part of the TBN grill badge but removeable from them.

I must be the luckiest woman in the world. I just bought a brand new, yes brand new, 2005 silver bird!(Thanks to my friend George who helped me find it!)I'm in love!! I'm the original owner, and promise to be the only owner of this beautiful machine. I really want to give it the special care she deserves and would appreciate any suggestions. I live in Miami and don't have a garage. Should I get a cover? I am still waiting for some accessories from my dealer, including my floor mats, and also wanted to know if the mats are supposed to have a special 50th anniversary emblem. The VIN is 1FAHP60AX5Y103225, can you tell me anything about it? I would appreciate any feedback, I am new at this, never been much of a car lover, but I AM NOW!!!
This is a great site CONGRATULATIONS!!...and THANK YOU

Hi Rosie! Yes aren't we ALL lucky to have such nice cars. And you were lucky to find this site!

1FAHP60AX5Y103225
Order Date: 9/28/2004
Date Built: 11/5/2004
At Dealer: 12/13/2004
Sold Date: 12/8/2005 Sold by World Ford/Kendall in Miami, FL.

As noted, I show it sold last December, have you had it that long? If you JUST bought it, was it maybe a dealer demo with low miles?
Your 2004 Premium silver, no hardtop, black accent interior, SST, 7 spoke chrome wheels is one of only 15 made like that.
Your engine was made October 19, 2004 at the Lima Ohio engine plant and it's serial number is 0221630. Your transmission was made November 1, 2004 at the Sharonville, Ohio transmission plant and its serial number is 550144.
If you drive it every day I don't think I would mess with a cover in your climate. Keep it waxed and if possible in the shade while parked.

Rosie,
Your mats would be standard OEM - no 50th anniversary emblems on them - no emblems at all. You can order an upgrade mat set that has the T-bird emblem on them thru your dealer's parts department.
As for a cover - the interior of a car never likes sitting in the sun so I'd invest in a weather proof cover for the car. The drawback with a cover outside though is wind abrasion on the paint. Never put a cover on the car if the car is dirty. Even if clean, worry about wind moving the cover around on the car.

Hi guys,
Thank you so much for your very valuable information. I really appreciate your quick response. I am very confused though, and hope you can maybe clarify this for me. You say that you show that the car sold in 12/04? I bought this car as new, not a demo, as stated in my bill of sale from Metro Ford in Miami. They did tell me that the car had come from World Ford originally. The car had 500 miles on it and the guaranty period is supposed to have started on the day I bought it just a week ago. Is this something I should be worried about? I am sorry if I sound naive, but as I said before I'm new at this and you hear so many horror stories about car salesmen. I am sure that when they saw me, an inexperienced woman alone and in love with a car, they must have started playing the theme from jaws! Again, thank you and please continue to be this nice because I am sure I'm going to have more questions.
Rosie

Rosie, Not 2004, December 2005. My guess is that it was used as a dealer demo for a while. These cars are not titled to anyone so in that sense it's still a new car, and 500 miles isn't anything to be concerend about. Have you had the car serviced by a Ford dealer yet? Often times the paperwork they give you has the "in service date." If I were you I would call a different Ford dealer service department and give them the VIN and have them look up to see when it was originally placed in service. The main thing is they probably gave you a good price and with the warranty you don't have much to fear. In any case enjoy the car and feel free to ask any questions you want. You might also check out some of Dots links to Thunderbird forums ( http://portholeauthority.com/thenewtbird/link/clubs.html ). The two most popular sites are http://www.thunderbirdnest.com and http://www.thunderbirdtalk.com/

Sold date is 12/8/05 (11 months ago) and that would be the normal start date of the warranty. Your dealer's service dept. may be willing to honor the full 3 year warranty from the time you bought it so do ask about it.
This car certainly brings out the car lover in most that own one.

I have just bought the chrome hood scoop bezel for my 02 T-Bird, it came with no instructions. The on-line instruction say remove the hood liner. How big a job is removing and reinstalling the hood liner?
It also says do not disturb the antenna strap. My antenna is in the windshield.
Has anyone done this job and can give me some imput.

THANKS JIM C.

The antenna strap is a ground for the windshield antenna. It is easy to remove the liner. The plastic buttons are just a push in type of fastener. I use a modified putty knife, i cut a notch in the middle, to slip under the button and pry it loose. You don't have to undo the ground straps at the rear of the liner, just let the liner hang on them while you change the bezel.
The hard part is removing the old bezel. It is held in place with metal clips that must be released fron the back side. A good pair of needlenose pliers will help. You can use soft wood between the bezel and hood when you get each clip loose. The clips will kinda go back in place as you work on each one, so you need to prop the bezel away from the hood. The new bezel just snaps into place..

Hi Dot,
Is there a PCR model car?

Also I may have dreamed it but I think I heard/read that Ford was going to put the chrome/stainless strips on a recall so our hardtops will fit better and wont rub and scratch the paint- Is this true??

Thank you and
Regards
CK

CK - haven't heard any Ford rumors about a recall for the hardtop scratches. There was a possibility about 3 years ago but Ford scratched that after their tests with the stainless strips.
as for a PCR model - none exist. Best bet is to buy a diecast and repaint it.

Does that mean the stainless strips did or did not work, do you have them Dot, and whats's your impression?
Thanks for what you do here!
Ron

Thank you Dot- Have you heard from anyone that has used the stainless strips?
I was looking at them on Ebay and it said to use the plastic strips over them when you put the hard to on to protect the stainless from scratches- but the hardtop noise would be gone- I just put my hardtop back on and the noise is pretty bad- I didnt put the plastic strips on- I guess I should redo it and see if the noise is better with the strips-

I dont think I'd do a very good job repainting a model car- Maybe someone will come out with one-

Thank you and
Regards
CK

Ron & CK,
I don't use anything our ours - hardtop is rarely on. Try to keep the gaskets and sail panel real clean before installing top when we do. We get a little bit of rub but not enough to have to look for something else.
Ford had "lifting" problems (glue didn't hold well) with the strips during testing plus scratches on the trim and some damage to paint caused by strip cutting into paint. Decided not to offer them.

Aftermarket strips - some have found them to cut into the rubber gasket - but that can be reduced by covering with the clear mylar.

Others have used door trim that fits over the edge - seems to work. The extra added height of the mylar seems to tighten up the top according to some who use it.

Recently purchased 05' 50th Anniversary Cashmere. I'm interested in buying a spare set of floor mats (color is "stone"). Would appreciate any information on how best to acquire them.

Thanks.

Constantine,
I do not know if those are still available. Your best resource would be to go thru your Ford Dealer parts department and bring one of your original mats and see if he can order a replacement. The part # is on the back of your floor mats.

Thanks so much Dot....apparently I've not been thinking too clearly cause I remain far too excited to own #520 of 1500. You have a great site!

Best regards

James, Thank Quickdraw for the info on your car. I just provide a space for him to do that.

I have just bought a near perfect condition 2003 WisperWhite T-Bird from Jordan Ford in San Antonio. The vin no. is 1FAHP60A43Y109972. It has a black and white seat combination with matching steering wheel. I have just ordered a hardtop hoist so that I can easily remove and store it up and out of the way. Thanks for any info you can provide. John

Hello, Was wondering if you could recommend a particular windscreen for my 2003 TBird? I have looked on the net at several different types and do not know which is a better type, some use straps to hold onto the headrest and another used two glued on slats with magnets. Thanks for the help. John

HI John,
I've never used any of the wind screens on the market and don't know which ones would be better to use. I would suggest asking on the TBT (Thunderbirdtalk.com ) forum.

Thank you for the information you gave me about my car. Do not know what the SST meant?? Could I ask how you are able to come up with all of this information? You are to be thanked. John

SST = Select Shift Transmission

John, The SST is Select Shift Transmission... it allows you the manually shift through the gears. I work for Ford, have a Tbird, and I know how we all love to know about our cars, and I like to help people. It's also good for Ford Motor Company by encouraging enthusiasm for their cars.

? I have a 2005 Red T-bird with a black top and all black interior.Vin # 1FAHP60A95Y107699. I want to find out how many cars were made like mine out of the 1846 Red ones made in 2005. If anyone knows or can tell me how to find out I would appreciate it.
Thanks,
Dennis

Dennis,

Your deluxe 2005 red, no hardtop, standard black interior, 16 spoke painted wheels is one of 75. Your car was ordered 3/4/2005 and built on 5/11/2005 and was put into service as a Ford executive lease vehicle.

I purchased a pristine 2002 recently. I noted the expiration date for ordering a duplicate window sticker has passed. Will there be another opportunity? Also in need of all literature that came with new car including zippered pouch. Can these be ordered from Ford?

Jon, It's remotely possible that there will be a spring order. We'll let you know if that happens. The zippered pouch & literature might be available thru your Ford dealer's parts department. Check my Ford accessories page, near the bottom for parts number for the owner's manual.

Thank You for the information about my car. Great Web Site.
Dennis

Hello, I have a 2005 bronze vin# 1fahp60a85y103854 what can you tell me? I'd also like to order a window sticker if that is possible.
Thanks, John

Thanks alot. I think I read you are in IL somewhere? I am Too hope to talk more with you.

John

I just moved across the border to Northwest Indiana - where are you in IL?

In September 2006, our three-year-old daughter was chosen to be the "sash-bearer" in our local homecoming parade. My wife told me that she would take care of purchasing the two dresses necessary for the occasion, and that it was my responsibility to find a convertible in which our daughter could ride in the afternoon parade. So, I found an '03 retro bird from the year she was born, bought it and brought it home. VIN 1FAHP6OA63Y1O7625 has only 3,600 miles and is showroom new. This torch red beauty spends its life in a heated garage under cover, and occasionally goes out on warm north-Georgia days. This car has never seen rain. What else can you tell me about it? I imagine this car has no aspects which make it rare, other than the fact that it will always be a low-mileage car until the baby drives it off to college (in fourteen some odd years). Anything else you can tell me about this little bird? Thanks, Ken Miller, Chatsworth, Georgia.

Great story... Did she get to sit on top of the boot? I know some people have let smallish high school Queens ride sitting on the boot, but anything more than maybe a 10-12 year old would make me worry about bending top bows or breaking the softop back window.

I'm saving my 2002 for our 5 y.o. granddaughter.

Your 2003 Premium red, red hardtop, full red interior, SST, 7 spoke chrome wheels is one of 858 made like that.

I did let her sit on top of the soft boot. However, I placed a couple of pillows under the boot, not only to support her weight (35 lbs.) but also to fill the void under the boot and to hopefully act as a cushion for the top bows and glass window. I, too, was concerned about the top structure. Anyway, it has been a great story.....my wife didn't exactly expect me to purchase a car when she told me I was responsible for a car for our daughter to ride in. When I drove the car home on a warm September Saturday morning, she said I had a look in my eye that told her this was more than just a borrowed car. She then asked me if I had bought the car, and when I told her "YES" and my reason for doing it, she was all for being a T-bird owner. I just thought it would be nice for the baby to have a car from the year she was born.....and that car will be the same car she rode in way back when she was three. We have all the video and photos to document the occasion.

When it came time for my father to purchase my first car, I requested a 1966 (year I was born) Mustang. He came home with a 1966 Mustang GT which was a multiple show winner from a local restorer. When I went to college, I sold the car and purchased a new '87 Corvette. Even though I loved the 'vette (and the subsequent ones, as well), I have always regretted selling my first car. I'm sure when my father passes I will regret even more not having that special gift he went out of his way to find for a hopeful teenager.

Thanks for the information on the car. Also, thanks for this forum. You're doing a great job! Ken.

Hi Gary,
That I do not know - have not heard of one. suggest checking on Thunderbirdnest as there may be someone there that has figured out what needs to be done to hook one up.
