Wiking colors compared to each other. Wiking colors paired with light and darker versions. .
	Wiking body molds come in 2 slightly different shapes noted on the inside, under the hood as a "1" or a "2" mold #. Only difference visible on the outside is the amount of the lip or apron of the colored body over the rear bumper, see photo. Noted from the article by Hans_Peter Maerker in the July, 1988 issue of Modell Magazin (a German publication)page 26. A precursor to the trailer hitch base has been found on a ca. 1965 Grey-blue model (base #1 & wheels #1). It's a Wiking add-on trailer hitch, glued to the rear of the base. Original owner recalls it being that way when he bought it from a store around 1965 and he kept his models as he bought them.. ...

Manufacturers A short history about the manufacturers of these scale models
	AMT	USA built thru the 80s; started out as the Aluminum Model Toy company in the late 40s. Several Auto manufacturers had AMT build scale models for promotional use up thru the 70s. Most are a plastic compound with or without a pull-back action mechanism and the Mark II may come with or without an interior. AMT was eventually bought out by Lesney/Matchbox in 1979 and later by Ertl (1982). In 1999, Racing Champions bought out Ertl. In 2009, RC2 (name change for Racing Champions), , has quit making the Ertl models in kit form, just concentrating on diecast farm equipment. Do not know if anyone has picked up the model kit line. The Mark II doesn't seem to have been made in kit form after the promos were over with. I may be wrong on that count but have never come across an AMT model kit of the Mark II, just the one by Revell.
	Brooklin	England, built since the early 80s. White metal diecasts, hand built. Company is still making models though the Mark II was discontinued in the mid-90s. .
	eKo	Spain; similar to the Wiking models from Germany; bases are slightly different; plastic models for the HO railroad hobbiest. You may find them with messed up bases due to their being glued down to railroad layouts or dioramas. The 1/87Scale website has a little more information. Company started in the 50s. .
	Ferrero	Germany; small plastic models built during the 90s. Distributed in Europe in plastic eggs as "kits" (Kinder Surprise Toys) to put together thus crude, and thick to reduce breakage. .
	Galoob	China; Designer of the Micro Machines which are built in China. Models were started circa 1985 and continue though Galoob was bought out by Hasbro in the late 90s. The Mark II model was built from the 80s into the late 90s. Haven't seen any lately. .
	Franklin Mint	China; designed in the US; Has been making models since the early 80s for the collector, not as toys. The Mark II was added to their lineup in the late 80s. .
	HC ? Hamilton Collection?	England; pewter manufacturer. Don't know anything more about this one. .
	High Speed	China manufacturer of detailed, diecast models. Usually build for other companies but also available under their own brand name. Currently Model Power is one of their customers. .
	Ideal Toy Corporation	Built plastic model cars in the 50s and 60s among other toys. Some in kit form, some assembled. No longer in buiness.
	Kaname Sangyo KS	Japan; tin models of the 50s and 60s. Large scale and uncommon to find. .
	Mercury	Italy; copied in other European countries during the 40s & 50s; Mark II built during the 50s. Company ceased to exist in the early 80s. Molds became available to Scottoys in the late '90s. read discussion on Mark IIs on the Matchbox forum .
	MiniChamps	China; nice diecast models; current .
	Model Power	Retail company that commissions models from manufacturer in China, High Speed. .
	Oxford Diecast	Manufactured in China; Continental Mark II added to their lineup in 2015. Has a small assortment of American models.
	PlayMates Toys PTI	Manufactured in China; see Speedeez; company started in 1966 mainly making dolls, later branching out. current .
	Revell	USA, France; Model kits mostly from the 50s to current. .
	Scottoy	Italy; started up in the late 1990s; using models, & later, molds made by Mercury *1 ~ 2nd Series, #12, 700 in series. 4 colors plus another red. .
	Signature	Brand name from Yat Ming - see Yat Ming entry below. .
	Speedeez	China - brand name from 2003, see Playmates Toys above .
	Wiking	Germany (Berlin) - maker of small plastic scale models usually for the railroad hobby, nicely detailed for the size; an old manufacturer from the 30s, still producing today but under different owership. Continental Mark IIs built from the late 50s to early 80s. The current Wiking company started reissuing this mold in 2009 in Germany. ** German color names taken from 1988 article by Hans-Peter Maerker in July 1988 Modell Magazin .
	Yat Ming	China - started in the early 70s; makes diecast models; detailing is usually not on a par with Franklin Mint nor Danbury Mint but still nice. Still make models today. Mark II Models are in their more expensive Signature series which means a little more detailing to the models, not to be confused with their Road Legends or Road Signature brands. Yat Ming ceased production in July 2013. However, the 1/64 model of the Mark II came out in 2013, one of the last produced by them..
	Definitions: Codes 1, 2 & 3	Code 1 = Made by manufacturer for the retail market Code 2 = Made by manufacturer with graphics or color commissioned for a specific event or company. Code 3 = Individual using a code 1 model and adding own graphics, &/or repaint, or customizing in some other fashion, sometimes with factory authorization. Desirability varies.
	Notes:	* As far as the Mark II is concerned there is no difference in the outward appearance between a 1956 and a 1957 Continental Mark II. A scale model manufacturer may make their own difference, limiting certain embellishments to a particular year.
